Ikoi disclosed the development in an update shared on her Facebook page after visiting the police station to meet with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) over the incident. A woman, Helena Nelson Ikoi, who earlier accused operatives of the Nigeria Police Force Tactical Squad in Lagos State of abducting her and two friends and demanding ₦800,000 for their release, has revealed that she was refunded ₦150,000 allegedly collected from them by the officers. Ikoi disclosed the development in an update shared on her Facebook page after visiting the police station to meet with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) over the incident. According to her, she went to the station alongside a friend, Jude, where they held what she described as an extensive discussion with the DPO regarding the alleged misconduct of the officers. She said the DPO promised that the officer who allegedly slapped her during the incident would be identified and sanctioned. "Hi everyone, update on the Police issue. I went to the station with my friend Jude to see the DPO. We had an extensive conversation, he has promised to bring the officer who slapped me to book," Ikoi wrote. The woman also said the ₦150,000 earlier paid to the officers was refunded to her after the matter attracted public attention on social media. "I was refunded the 150k we paid earlier. For that I am grateful. I truly hope that these policemen will be dealt with and I promise to follow up," she said. Ikoi noted that the officers who initially behaved aggressively became subdued during the meeting with the DPO. "It was interesting to see all the men who were acting like little jesuses earlier behave like spineless worms," she added. She thanked members of the public who amplified her earlier distress message online, saying the widespread outrage played a key role in securing the refund and pushing authorities to address the matter. "I want to appreciate each and everyone of you who shared, commented, called and reported the incident which helped me get my refund and hopefully some semblance of justice," she wrote. Ikoi also thanked individuals who supported her during the ordeal, including a person identified as Okama and her friend Jude who accompanied her to the police station. "I couldn't have gotten that refund without you all," she said. The woman added that she was returning home to rest and recover from the incident, noting that she planned to continue participating in the second day of Chef Anani's ongoing Grillathon event. SaharaReporters earlier reported that Ikoi had alleged that operatives attached to the Lagos State Police Command's Tactical Squad unit, popularly known as "Buffalo," intercepted her and two friends while they were returning from activities connected to Chef Anani's Guinness World Record Grillathon attempt. According to her earlier post, the officers allegedly took them to Oko-Baba in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos and demanded ₦800,000 before they would release them. "I was just kidnapped by the Nigerian Police Command Tactical Squad, Lagos State (Buffalo)," she had written in the distress message. "I was coming from Chef Anani's Guinness World Record Grillathon with two other friends. We were taken to Oko-Baba at Ebute Metta and have been asked to pay ₦800k on bail or stay locked up till Monday." Her post sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians calling on the Lagos State Government and police authorities to investigate the allegations.
