President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria's foreign missions and the United Nations, according to a statement issued by the State House on Friday. The appointments comprise 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats, whose nominations were confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December last year. A statement signed by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said the ambassadors-designate have been assigned to various countries across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas, as well as multilateral missions. Among the non-career envoys, Sen. Grace Bent will serve in Lomé, Togo, while former presidential aide Sen. Ita Enang has been posted to South Africa. Former Abia State governor Ikpeazu Victor will head Nigeria's mission in Spain, while Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu has been assigned to Tel Aviv, Israel. Others include Mahmud Yakubu to Qatar, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas to the Philippines, and Reno Omokri to Mexico. Former Minister of Health Prof. Isaak Folorunso Adewole was posted to Ottawa, Canada, while former aviation security chief Lateef Kayode Are will represent Nigeria in the United States. Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode is to serve as Nigeria's ambassador to Germany, while businessman and politician Jimoh Ibrahim has been appointed Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Several career diplomats were also assigned to key missions. These include Ambassador Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Côte d'Ivoire, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to India, and Ambassador Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya. According to the presidency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already secured agrément -- the formal diplomatic approval from host countries -- for the High Commissioner-designate to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, and from France for Ambassador Ayo Oke. The ministry has also forwarded the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host governments, requesting the necessary diplomatic clearances in line with international practice. President Tinubu further directed the Foreign Affairs Ministry to immediately begin the induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners ahead of their deployment to the various missions.
