President Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to Nigeria's diplomatic missions around the world, including former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany and former presidential aide Reno Omokri to Mexico. The list, released on Friday by the Presidency, comprises 34 non-career political appointees and 31 career diplomats, all of whom were confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December 2025. In a statement issued by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the government said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has begun the diplomatic process required for the ambassadors to assume office. According to the Presidency, requests for agrément, the formal consent of host countries, have already been transmitted to the governments where the envoys will serve. Among the non-career ambassadors are several prominent politicians and former public officials. Businessman and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was appointed Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, while former Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau will head Nigeria's mission in China. Former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lateef Kayode Are, was posted to the United States, while former Deputy Governor of Lagos State Olufemi Pedro will represent Nigeria in Australia. Other notable appointments include former presidential adviser Ita Enang to South Africa, former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, and former Minister of Health Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada. The President also approved the posting of 31 career ambassadors to several strategic missions across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Among them are Ambassador Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria, Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Ambassador Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, Ambassador Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia, and Ambassador Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel to Belgium. Several other diplomats were posted to African countries including Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Gabon, Chad, and Mali. The Presidency disclosed that the government of the United Kingdom has already granted agrément for Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu as Nigeria's High Commissioner to London. Similarly, the government of France has approved the appointment of Ambassador Ayo Oke as Nigeria's envoy to Paris. President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence induction programmes for the ambassadors-designate ahead of their deployment. The appointments mark one of the most extensive diplomatic postings by the current administration as it seeks to strengthen Nigeria's global diplomatic presence and international partnerships.
