A grassroots movement of workers under the umbrella of Working People United (WPU) on Friday unveiled its support group for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja on Friday. The WPU attracted workers from different trade unions and in the oil and gas industry. Present at the ceremony were the Trade Union Congress (TUC), National President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners of Nigeria (PETROAN), Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Nigerian Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of (NOGASAN), and the others. Although the WPU Coordinator, Comrade Williams Akporeha, said the association's heads were there at their individual representation, they all consented to the election of Tinubu in 2027. Akporeha is also the NUPENG National President, a key affiliate of the TUC. Speaking, he said the grassroots movement was formed on the strength, resilience, and aspirations of the common Nigerians. He described the WPU as a representation of the collective voice of workers, artisans, traders, farmers, professionals, transporters, and all hardworking citizens who form the backbone of the great nation's economy. His words: "Today marks a historic moment as we formally unveil Working People United, a grassroots movement built on the strength, resilience, and aspirations of ordinary Nigerians. "This movement represents the collective voice of workers, artisans, traders, farmers, professionals, transporters, and all hardworking citizens who form the backbone of our great nation's economy. "Working People United was established with a clear and patriotic mission: to galvanize and mobilize Nigerians across all sectors of the economy to actively participate in shaping the future of our country and to ensure the continuation of leadership that prioritizes national development, economic stability, and the welfare of the masses." On Tinubu's re-election, he said being committed to good governance and policy implementation, the group has discovered that the process of making Nigeria a greater nation is in motion. He said Tinubu must be encouraged with a re-election to conclude what he has started. Akporeha said, "As a group committed to good governance and policy implementation, we have seen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu put the machinery of making Nigeria a greater nation in motion, and therefore, be encouraged to finish what destiny has put in his hands. How do we achieve that? It's 4+4!" He recalled that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken bold and decisive steps to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and shared prosperity. According to him, leadership is never about choosing the easy path; it is about choosing the path that secures the future of the nation. The reforms and policies introduced by this administration, he said, demonstrate courage, foresight, and commitment to building a stronger Nigeria. He acknowledged that there have been several pro-working people achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu since he assumed office. Beyond wages, Akporeha said the administration has introduced several pro-people and pro-poor initiatives designed to cushion the effects of economic reforms and support vulnerable Nigerians. The coordinator said that through expanded social investment programmes and direct cash transfer initiatives, millions of low-income households are being supported with financial assistance to help them meet basic needs. He added that these targeted interventions are helping to protect the most vulnerable members of society while broader economic reforms take effect. Akporeha stressed that policies aimed at improving access to credit for small businesses, traders, and artisans are gradually expanding economic opportunities at the grassroots level. Continuing, he added that, "these initiatives recognize that Nigeria's economy is driven not only by large corporations but also by millions of hardworking small-scale entrepreneurs across the country. "Working People United, therefore, stands as a platform to enlighten Nigerians about these reforms, to promote constructive engagement between government and citizens, and to mobilize and advocate for policies that will move the nation forward."
