The Vice-President of the Economic Community of West African States Commission (ECOWAS), Damtien Tchintchibidja, has led a high-level delegation to Lomé to discuss the operationalisation of Togo's National Coordination Centre for the Early Warning Response Mechanism (CNCMR). The meeting, held on Tuesday (3 March 2026), forms part of efforts to activate the national mechanism that will serve as Togo's interface within the ECOWAS regional early warning system. The ECOWAS delegation included the bloc's resident representative in Togo, Deweh Emily Gray, Togo's High Commissioner to Nigeria, Léné Dimban, and officials from the Commission's Early Warning Directorate. They were received by Togo's Minister for Security and Civil Protection, Calixte Batossie Madjoulba. The discussions focused on progress made toward implementing the joint roadmap for the launch of the CNCMR, including the administrative, institutional and technical arrangements needed to make the centre fully operational. Once established, the centre will serve as the national coordination hub linking Togo to the ECOWAS regional early warning architecture, designed to detect potential security threats, monitor developments and support preventive responses across the region. The initiative is expected to strengthen regional cooperation on peace and security while enhancing early detection of emerging risks in West Africa.
