Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has cautioned journalists to beware of politicians who are determined to undermine democracy if government decisions and policy outcomes do not favor them, labeling them "latter-day activists." Speaking at a Ramadan fast-breaking meeting with journalists at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Governor Sani emphasized that Nigerian journalists have fought for democracy more than any other professional group and should not let their sacrifices be undone by anti-democratic forces. The governor recalled the crucial role journalists played in Nigeria's struggle for democracy, noting that many lost their freedoms and some even lost their lives in the fight. "You have to be vigilant about this category of politicians who are conflict merchants," he warned. Governor Sani pointed out that these politicians focus less on issues like healthcare, education, human capital development, infrastructure, unemployment, and poverty, but instead dwell on ethnicity and religion, which divide the country. He urged journalists to question these so-called activists and hold them accountable for their past actions. He highlighted the achievements of his administration, including the development of all 23 local governments over the past 2.5 years and the promotion of equity and justice. The governor also mentioned that his government has renovated, equipped, and remodeled 15 of the 32 secondary hospitals in Kaduna State, and plans to build an additional 102 schools with support from international partners. Governor Sani stressed that Kaduna State is committed to transparency and has benefited from $62.8 million in funding to reduce the number of out-of-school children. "Our goal is to ensure no child is left outside the classroom in Kaduna State because we believe education is the greatest equalizer," he added.
