The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting equity, fairness, and balanced representation in public service. Federal Character Commissioner representing Oyo State, Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, disclosed this during a press conference held to receive him at the Commission's Zonal office, located inside the Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday. Abass-Aleshinloye, who was inaugurated on January 22, 2026, under the leadership of Hon Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, said the Commission would intensify monitoring and compliance efforts to ensure that recruitment, appointments, and promotions in federal ministries, departments, and agencies reflect the principles of federal character. He assured the people of Oyo State that their interests and concerns remain well represented at the Commission, and that the state would receive its fair share of federal opportunities. The Commissioner emphasized that the FCC's mandate extends beyond employment and opportunity distribution; it also promotes fairness, equity, and balanced representation among all states and ethnic groups. He noted that the Federal Character principle remains a pillar for promoting unity, national integration, and inclusiveness in Nigeria, ensuring that no section of the country feels marginalized. Abass-Aleshinloye called on federal institutions to remain faithful, noting that the Commission would not hesitate to take enforcement actions against institutions that fail to comply with the guidelines. The Commissioner also commended the media for their role in informing the public and strengthening democratic governance, and urged Nigerians to support policies and initiatives that promote fairness, transparency, and national cohesion. The press conference was also attended by staff of the FCC Oyo State office, who were urged to remain professional and committed to their duties. Abass-Aleshinloye assured that his leadership would be guided by cooperation, accountability, and mutual respect. Speaking earlier, the State Director, Mr. Muyiwa Babanumi, said the press conference was organised to mark the arrival of the new Commissioner. He said no Commissioner had been so received, noting that this is a new dawn for the Commission in the state and Nigeria at large. He promised the cooperation of all staff members with the new Commissioner to drive the agenda of the Federal Government.
