The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, is expected to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police on Tuesday, according to sources within the Nigeria Police Force. Sources familiar with the process who spoke with Sahara Reporters said Jimoh is likely to be promoted and decorated on the same day following a promotion exercise scheduled by the police authorities. Insiders disclosed that Jimoh is also lobbying to remain in Lagos after his promotion to head the Zone 2 Police Command headquartered in Onikan, Lagos Island. The command oversees policing activities in both Lagos State and Ogun State. Jimoh assumed office in February 2025 as the 41st Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, succeeding Olanrewaju Ishola, who was redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. A senior police source said, "Moshood Jimoh is set to be promoted on Tuesday. Meanwhile, he is lobbying to head Zone 2 in Lagos." Sources also indicated that Tijani Fatai, a Lagos-born police officer currently serving as Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Command, has been pencilled down as a possible replacement for Jimoh. According to insiders, Fatai is believed to have the backing of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. "Mr Tijani Fatai has been pencilled down for Lagos, supported by the Lagos governor," the source added. Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force announced that a promotion examination and interactive session for senior officers seeking elevation to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General would take place on March 10, 2026. The exercise is scheduled to be held at the corporate headquarters of the Police Service Commission in Jabi, Abuja. According to a police wireless message circulated to commands and departments nationwide, the session will begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Chairman's Conference Room on the sixth floor of the commission's headquarters. Officers invited for the exercise were directed to report by 7:00 a.m. for briefing and onward movement to the venue. Among those invited for the exercise are Christopher Ado Emmanuel, Joseph Eribo, Miller Gajere Dantawaye, Henry Ifeanyi Uche, Olanrewaju Peter Ogunlowo, Mohammed Dahiru (FDC), Dankombo Faling Morris, Bello Shehu, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, Ahmed Musa, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, Simeon Jimoh, Udofia Akpanudom (FDC) and Haruna Oufemi. Miller Gajere Dantawaye currently serves as the Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory Command, having assumed office in October 2025. The communication also outlined dress code requirements for the exercise, directing officers to appear in conventional attire, including black jackets and berets, while carrying swagger sticks. The examination will assess officers on law, local acts and professional studies. For security and logistics, the force directed that 12 armed officers from the Nigeria Police Mobile Force be deployed for escort duties. The transport department was also instructed to provide operational vehicles, including two Hilux vans, to convey the senior officers to and from the venue. The directive emphasised that all commands should treat the exercise as "very important" to ensure the smooth conduct of the promotion interviews.
