Basketball promoter and founder of the Mark D' Ball Basketball Championship, Igoche Mark, has outlined his priorities ahead of the Nigeria Basketball Federation leadership race, saying his first assignment as president would be to foster unity among stakeholders in the sport. Mark made the remark while speaking with journalists in Abuja at the weekend, stressing that harmony within the basketball community is essential for the development of the game in the country. According to him, bringing all stakeholders together will be the starting point for rebuilding the sport and restoring confidence among players, administrators and supporters. He said the basketball family must close ranks to move the game forward, noting that progress would remain difficult in an atmosphere of division. Mark observed that Nigerians have continued to excel in different areas of the global basketball ecosystem, adding that the country possesses enormous talent and expertise that must be harnessed for the growth of the game at home. He said his administration, if elected, would focus on redirecting the collective energy of stakeholders toward strengthening the domestic basketball structure. Mark maintained that Nigeria must deliberately invest in the development of the sport within its borders rather than relying solely on achievements recorded by Nigerians abroad. Responding to claims that he lacks the experience required to lead the federation, the basketball promoter dismissed the criticism, arguing that leadership opportunities often provide the platform through which experience is gained. He also pointed out that managing a federation such as the NBBF involves collective responsibility, noting that decisions are taken by a board rather than by a single individual. Mark further argued that the criticism does not hold weight, especially as many former leaders of the federation are not participating in the current race.
