The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has offered a detailed account of how he moved from being one of the President's harshest critics to joining his administration. In an interview with Al Jazeera journalist, Mehdi Hassan, on Head to Head, Bwala said his view gradually changed as he noticed the President's approach to governance, including consistent engagement with citizens and steady policy implementation. This shift led him to rejoin the APC and take up an official role in the government. It Bwala argued that politics requires adaptability and that revising one's position based on observed facts reflects growth rather than inconsistency. He said: "First of all, I left him after the primaries because he made a choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket and I thought at the time that that would be injurious to the interests of the Christian minorities. I made that decision and I campaigned against him. "After the election, for the next one year, I was critiquing policies of the president. "But I saw from January right up to December how this president patiently introduced policies and continued to engage Nigerians across all platforms in a bid to push Nigeria forward, I became impressive about it and I made a choice to do that." Naija News reports that Bwala dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) in mid‑2022/early 2023 because he objected strongly to Tinubu's "Muslim‑Muslim" ticket, saying it went against his principles of unity and inclusivity. After leaving APC, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and became a spokesperson for the PDP's presidential campaign, working for the Atiku Abubakar campaign against Tinubu. In early 2024, even while still technically a PDP member, Bwala met with President Tinubu at the State House and pledged support for the president's agenda, saying the country needed unity rather than party division. He told journalists that if supporting Tinubu meant returning to the APC, he would do so.
