The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Abuja, has undertaken a study tour of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, as part of efforts to strengthen national security strategies around the protection of oil and gas infrastructure in the Niger Delta. The visit formed part of activities under the Strategic Management and Policy Studies Course 8/2025, themed: "The Security of Oil and Gas Facilities in the Niger Delta: A Panacea for National Development." The NARC delegation, led by the Director General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Major General J.G.K. Myam (Rtd), comprised faculty members, course participants and the Commanding Officer of the 3 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Warri. They were received at the corporate headquarters of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited by the company's management team led by Captain Warredi Enisuoh, alongside Barr. Emmanuel Jakpa, Executive Director, Legal and Corporate Services, Brig. Gen. Efe Felix Edafiogor and Daisy Jaja, among other senior officials. During the visit, the delegation engaged in a policy dialogue with Tantita management to understudy the company's operational model and strategies in protecting critical oil and gas infrastructure across the Niger Delta region. In a keynote message, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, High Chief Kestin E. Pondi, whose address was presented by Barr. Emmanuel Jakpa, highlighted the company's people-centred security framework. Pondi explained that the company's approach focuses on collaboration with host communities rather than confrontation. "We do not protect the pipelines from the people. We protect the pipelines with the people. We built community trust and partnered with the people to create local employment and sustain environmental stewardship," he said. He noted that before Tantita commenced operations, the ecosystem in several affected areas had been severely damaged by oil pollution and illegal refining activities. "Before now, the ecosystem was not friendly, but when we came on board, the waters that were previously uninhabitable for fishes and other sea animals are now green and habitable. Fishermen are now back in business," he added. Pondi also highlighted the company's Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, noting that Tantita's interventions have positively impacted communities across the Niger Delta. "Our CSR impact is visible and speaks volumes. We have touched lives and communities, and sustainable development remains central to Tantita's security operations," he said. He further disclosed that the company has deployed advanced technology to strengthen its operations, including the Tantita Operational Command Application (TOCA), which supports real-time monitoring across its command and control centres. According to him, the company operates the largest drone fleet in West Africa for aerial surveillance of pipelines and maritime corridors, while field operatives are equipped with body cameras to improve accountability and operational efficiency. Pondi also explained that the company integrates environmental and livelihood initiatives into its operations through projects such as the Tantita Rice Paddy Farm and a tree-counting software embedded in the TOCA platform. The initiative, he said, is designed to generate and monetise carbon credits for communities in the Niger Delta while promoting climate sustainability. However, he noted that oil pollution and crude contamination in creeks and farmlands across the Niger Delta remain significant challenges requiring urgent environmental remediation. The Tantita Managing Director also identified structural and policy gaps affecting operations in the sector, including limited implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), inactive Host Community Funds and unclear regulatory frameworks for the disposal of seized crude oil. During the interactive session, members of the NARC delegation commended the company's operational model and reputation in securing oil and gas assets in the region. They noted that agencies and stakeholders consulted during their study visits spoke highly of Tantita's contribution to pipeline security and environmental protection. The delegation also applauded the integration of community development and environmental stewardship into the company's security architecture. As part of the tour, the visitors were taken around Tantita's state-of-the-art Command and Control Centre, where they observed the surveillance technologies deployed to monitor pipeline corridors and maritime routes. They were also introduced to the Tantita Operational Command Application and given a demonstration of the capabilities of the company's "Skywale drone" used for aerial surveillance. The visit ended with an exchange of honours between Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian Army Resource Centre. In his vote of thanks, Brigadier General A.A. Adekoya commended the company's operational strategy and technological capacity in securing oil infrastructure and supporting national security. He noted that the study tour reinforced the importance of collaboration, innovation and community inclusion in protecting Nigeria's critical oil and gas assets. According to him, sustainable security of the nation's oil facilities goes beyond enforcement, stressing that partnerships with host communities remain key to achieving lasting development in the Niger Delta.
