BUEA, PAV - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced new dates for the TotalEnergies CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026, which will now take place from July 25 to August 16, 2026. Morocco, which was awarded the hosting rights for the competition in October 2024, will still stage the tournament. The event was originally scheduled to run from March 17 to April 3, 2026. CAF says the decision to adjust the calendar followed discussions with FIFA and other stakeholders, aimed at ensuring the smooth organisation and success of Africa's flagship women's football tournament, while taking into account certain unforeseen circumstances. With the extension of the competition's dates, participating nations now have additional time to reassess their preparations and strategies ahead of the tournament. For countries such as Cameroon, preparations had so far been limited to two international friendly matches against Nigeria's Super Falcons played in Cameroon. The first encounter ended in a 1-0 victory for Cameroon, while the return leg saw Nigeria defeat Cameroon 3-1, giving the Super Falcons a 3-2 aggregate advantage over the two matches.
