MAKURDI: Lobi Stars Football Club (FC), of Makurdi, on Saturday beat ABS, Kwara, 2 - 0, in the Day 11, of the Nigeria National League (NNL). The football match which was played at the Mcarthy stadium Makurdi, is the second match that Lobi Stars' is playing at home in the last four years. In the first match it played at the Mcarthy stadium, a fortnight ago, the team had won 2 - 1 against Doma United. The first goal came in the second minute of the first half, through a header from Onah Peter, who headed the ball into the net of their opponent, from a free kick taken by Monday Akile, and was converted into a goal. Prior to the free kick that brought about the goal, Kumaga Suur, was fouled in the opponents half by an ABS defender. The second goal of the match came from substitute, Barnabas Imenger Jnr, in the 87th minute of play. And it was the goal that restored hope to the home team. The goal from Imenger, had caused a major upset when he tipped the ball over the head of goalkeeper, who was way out of the 18 yard box, a development that sent fans of Lobi Stars wild with jubilation. Although, the man of the match Peter Onah, played out his heart, he was however unable to find the back of the net. Even though, the Kwara side played quality possessional football, it failed to convert several opportunities that came their way. Speaking with members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), in the state, after the game, the Lobi Stars' coach, John Onuh, praised his boys for their outing. He however pointed out that the team would need to improve in the midfield and attack as well as work hard to get an away win. On the other hand, the Coach of ABS Ogundeji Jewel, who hailed his team for performing well, noted that they however made mistakes that resulted in the team losing the match to Lobi Stars.
