Troops of the 7 Guards Battalion of the Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued 19 kidnapped victims during a search-and-rescue operation in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The operation, conducted around Gidan Dogo, involved troops working alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes. Military authorities said in a statement on Saturday that the mission was launched after credible intelligence revealed the location of terrorists responsible for the recent abduction of residents from the Byazhin area of Bwari. During the operation, troops engaged the kidnappers in a firefight. One of the terrorists was killed, while others fled the area with suspected gunshot wounds. Security forces later combed the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm. All 19 kidnapped victims were rescued during the operation and evacuated to safety. They are currently receiving attention, according to the military. Following the rescue mission, troops returned to their Forward Operating Base in Bwari but are expected to continue dominating the general area to prevent further criminal activities. The Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Olusegun Onasanya, commended the troops and other security agencies involved in the operation for their bravery and professionalism. He reiterated that the Guards Brigade remains committed to protecting residents of the Federal Capital Territory and safeguarding Abuja as the nation's seat of power. Onasanya added that the Brigade would continue to intensify operations with other security agencies to rid the FCT and surrounding areas of terrorism, kidnapping and other criminal activities.
