March 06, (THEWILL) -- President Bola Tinubu has assured members of the Armed Forces and Nigerians that the country will ultimately overcome its security challenges, declaring that the sacrifices made by military personnel in defence of the nation will not be in vain. The President gave the assurance on Friday during an interfaith breaking of fast with members of the Armed Forces at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Addressing the gathering, Tinubu commended the courage, sacrifice and professionalism of the troops, noting that many personnel remain separated from their families while confronting terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements across the country. "I have listened to the Chief of Army Staff on my recent approvals to the Nigerian Armed Forces. My duty is to thank all of you on behalf of a grateful nation, knowing fully well that many times you are without your families and that you stay away from them. "Some of you are facing attacks by bandits and terrorists. I commend your courage, sacrifice and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria's sovereignty and the safety of its citizens," he said. Tinubu noted that the gallant efforts of the security forces have continued to degrade the operational capabilities of terrorist groups and bandits operating in various parts of the country. "You have been working to serve the country deeply and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain, I assure you," he said. The President reaffirmed his administration's commitment to improving the welfare of officers and men on the frontlines, assuring them of continued investment in modern equipment, intelligence and logistics to enhance their operational effectiveness. Tinubu also thanked Nigerians for their patience and resilience amid ongoing economic reforms, describing the country's current phase as a gradual emergence from economic hardship. "I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and that of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel," he said. The President further extended his sympathy to the government and people of Borno State over the recent terrorist attack in the state, expressing condolences to families of victims and those affected by the violence. Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluwafemi Oluyode, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, commended the President for a series of approvals aimed at improving the welfare and operational efficiency of members of the Armed Forces. Shaibu noted that the interfaith breaking of fast provided an opportunity for personnel of different faiths within the military to renew their commitment to national service. "I want to appreciate the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for the auspicious opportunity of marking the breaking of fast for both faiths. This unique period offers us the opportunity to renew our service and our commitments to our fatherland," he said. Shaibu also expressed appreciation for the President's approval of an upward review of salaries for members of the Armed Forces and increased allowances for the Brigade of Guards. According to him, the approvals also cover the procurement of modern equipment and the provision of improved accommodation for military personnel. "These laudable approvals will go a long way in enhancing our operational efficiency, and I assure you that they are well received by all members of the Armed Forces," he added. The event formed part of activities marking the Ramadan season and brought together senior military officers and other government officials at the Presidential Villa.
