ABUJA - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over N279 million in recovered public funds to the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, turning money traced from corruption into a boost for Nigeria's arts and cultural sector. The funds, recovered from individuals and organizations involved in corrupt practices, were formally presented to the Centre as part of EFCC's commitment to ensuring that recovered assets benefit national development. In a statement released by the EFCC on Friday, the commission said: "The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission remains steadfast in its mission to recover stolen public funds and ensure that such assets are redirected to projects that serve the public interest. "Today, we are proud to hand over N279 million to the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, formerly the National Theatre, Lagos. "This handover demonstrates our determination to see that recovered funds are utilized for the greater good of Nigerians." The EFCC added that the Centre is expected to utilize the funds to enhance its programs in the arts, culture, and creative sectors, provide training opportunities for emerging talents, and maintain infrastructure for public engagement and cultural preservation.
