ABUJA - The National Rescue Movement (NRM), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately obey an order and judgment of Justice Obiorah Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, directing it to recognize the Chief Edozie Njoku-led national leadership of the party. Justice Egwuatu had on January 16, 2025, made an order mandating INEC to monitor NRM's emergency national convention of January 17, 2025. Also, in a judgement on March 5, 2025, Justice Egwuatu granted an order impelling INEC to recognize the outcome of the said emergency national convention. The demand was contained in a communique and resolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) as ratified by the National Executive Council of NRM after it's meeting on March 6, 2026, in Abuja. In furtherance to the NWC meeting of the NRM held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, the NEC sat to ratify decisions arising therefrom, reviewed the current state of the Party and deliberated on matters of urgent importance affecting its leadership, organisation, and compliance with lawful directives. After extensive deliberations, the NEC reaffirmed the validity and authority of the Court Order of January 16, and March 5, 2025 Judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja impelling INEC to recognize the outcome of the said Emergency National Convention. A statement by Chinedu Nebeife, National Publicity Secretary of NRM, stated that the party leadership insisted that "respect for the rule of law and obedience to court orders remain fundamental pillars of Nigeria's constitutional democracy". The NEC noted with concern that several positions within the committee had become vacant due to the resignation and departure of some members who became frustrated by the prolonged delay in the recognition of NRM's lawful leadership. Therefore, in order to restore full administrative functionality and strengthen the party's organisational structure, the NEC proceeded to ratify the recommendations that were brought forward by the NWC to fill the vacant positions in the party according to the provisions of the constitution as amended in 2025, bearing in mind that the National Convention is not needed for the replacement of vacant position which can be handled by the NWC and ratified by the NEC. According to the statement, the NEC equally considered reports of persistent anti-party activities by certain members and, after due deliberation, resolved to accept and ratify the recommendations of the NWC for the expulsion of the following individuals, who had been suspended by the Disciplinary Committee appointed in accordance to the constitution of the party. They expelled former members of NRM are; Alhaji Muhyideen Imam, Nasiru Baba, and Chuks Nwoga. The NEC found out that their actions were inconsistent with the principles, discipline, and collective interests of the Party, reiterating that the Party will not tolerate any conduct capable of undermining its unity, stability, and lawful leadership. Furthermore, the NEC noted that it is embarrassingly sad that some members of the party -- particularly highly placed officers who are expected to embody integrity and nobility of character -- have reduced themselves to the level of paid agents, mercenaries, and hirelings for forces bent on derailing the party from fulfilling its manifest destiny. More so, the National Executive Committee reassured members and supporters across the country that the Party remains committed to internal discipline, constitutional order, and the defence of democratic principles. It urged all members to remain steadfast and united as the Party continues to pursue the full enforcement of the March 5, 2025 judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
