Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has opened up about the most important advice he has received in football, crediting Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha for shaping his mindset on the pitch. Alex Iwobi, who plays as an attacking midfielder for Fulham, said his uncle encouraged him to play with freedom and confidence throughout his career. The 29-year-old former Arsenal star spoke about the influence during a recent appearance on The High Performance Podcast. According to Iwobi, Okocha's simple message helped him stay fearless in games. "He [Okocha] said to me, express yourself. Don't be afraid to express yourself," the Nigerian international said. "I got it from my uncle, Jay-Jay Okocha. He said it to me once, and I literally just watched how he lived his life. "I feel lucky he is my uncle. I used to see him both off the pitch as well as on the pitch." Okocha is widely regarded as one of Nigeria's most gifted footballers, known for his flair, creativity and fearless style during his playing days. Iwobi has followed a similar path in the Premier League, building a reputation for his energy, versatility and attacking drive. So far this season, he has scored 4 goals and provided three assists in 26 games in all competitions for Fulham. His contract with the Premier League side will expire on June 30, 2028.
