UGANDA: Ugandan forces helped South Sudan carry out air strikes that killed and badly burned civilians a year ago, according to a United Nations inquiry released today. Joint aerial bombardments by South Sudan and Uganda "targeted civilian-populated areas predominantly affecting Nuer communities in opposition-affiliated areas," said the report by the UN Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan, referring to South Sudan's second-largest ethnic group. There was no immediate comment from the Ugandans. INDONESIA: Indonesia will ban social media for children under 16, Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said today. Hafid in a statement to media said that she just signed a government regulation that will mean children under the age of 16 can no longer have accounts on high-risk digital platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, X and Instagram. The implementation will start gradually from March 28. UKRAINE: Ukraine accused Hungarian authorities today of detaining seven Ukrainian employees of Ukraine's state-owned Oschadbank, including a former intelligence officer, and seizing two armoured cars carrying large amounts of cash across Hungary on suspicion of money laundering. "This is state terrorism and racketeering," Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on X late on Thursday. NIGERIA: Islamic militants attacked Ngoshe in Borno state, north-eastern Nigeria today, abducting more than 300 people, including women and children, local officials said. Bulama Sawa, an official from the Gwoza area, told reporters the attack was likely in retaliation for an operation by the military that killed three commanders of the Boko Haram group. No-one immediately claimed responsibility for today's attack. Source: https://morningstaronline.co.uk/article/world-brief-march-6-2026
