The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has dismissed a suit filed by Dumebi Kachikwu and others against the viability of the African Democratic Party (ADC). This development was disclosed on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi. According to him, the Court ruled that issues relating to party leadership and membership of the ADC are internal and non-justiciable. Taking to his 𝕏 account, he wrote, "Congratulations to all opposition members and Nigerians who continue to believe in democracy and the integrity of our political institutions. "Today, the Federal High Court dismissed the suit filed by Dumebi Kachikwu and others against the ADC, affirming that issues relating to party leadership and membership are internal and non-justiciable. "This is a moment to move forward together. If you have been on the fence, now is the time to join the ADC and participate in building a party that can get Nigeria back on track." Shortly after, former Vice President of Nigeria and ADC chieftain, Atiku Abubakar, commended the development. He described those who initiated the initial suit as anti-democratic elements sponsored by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to him, the litigants wanted the ADC deregistered as a political party. He, however, said the court ruling is a victory for democracy. "I have been briefed that the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the suit brought by anti-democratic elements collaborating with the ruling party to have the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC) deregistered, effectively signalling the end of the opposition's last stronghold. Today's victory at the court demonstrates what we can accomplish when we unite. "I encourage everyone, wherever you may be, to register on the newly opened @ADCNig registration portal," Atiku wrote on his 𝕏 account.
