PEBEC hosts 3rd FDI roundtable, aim to boost investor confidence

Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) gathered top government officials and foreign investors for its Third Existing Foreign Direct Investors (FDI) Roundtable last week at the Dtate House Conference Centre of the Presidential Villa, sparking candid talks to supercharge Nigeria's business climate. The event underscored PEBEC's drive to bridge government and private sector gaps, turning reforms into real-world wins for investors. Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Hadejia, who kicked off proceedings, welcoming attendees on behalf of Vice President and PEBEC Chairman Kashim Shettima. "The Federal Government remains committed to fostering a stable, transparent, and competitive business environment that supports investment, expansion, and long-term economic growth," Hadejia stated. PEBEC Director-General Zahrah Audu set the stage, stressing the vital role of current investors. "Existing foreign investors are critical partners in Nigeria's economic development through job creation, capital investment, technology transfer, and supply chain development," she said. Audu highlighted PEBEC's focus on "listening to investors already operating in the country and addressing practical challenges that affect their operations." Key regulators joined interactive sessions, including Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS); Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi of the Nigeria Customs Service; and Inspector-General of Police Olutunji Rilwan Disu. Virtually, Taiwo Oyedele, newly appointed Minister of State for Finance and for Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms and Minister of State for Finance (Designate), shared updates on tax overhauls. "These initiatives are designed to improve tax certainty, strengthen revenue administration, and enhance Nigeria's competitiveness as an investment destination," Oyedele noted. Diplomats from the US, Russian Federation, France, Colombia, Denmark, and Pakistan embassies attended, alongside UN and World Bank representatives, enriching debates on security, taxes, customs, and fiscal policies. Investors posed tough questions, praising the open format. One participant remarked, "This platform shows the government's seriousness -- regular dialogues like this build real confidence."
