A former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Christopher Enweremadu (often referenced as "Ekweremadu"), has canvassed support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office and has equally declared interest in contesting the Abia Central Senatorial Zone seat in 2027. Addressing an enlarged political meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area over the weekend, Enweremadu gave reasons why Tinubu should be supported by his people. The former Abia Assembly Speaker said that, despite the economic hardship being experienced in the country presently, the President has put up some far-reaching policies which have ensured Nigeria remains firm in the comity of nations. Enweremadu's senatorial ambitions come at a time of significant legal scrutiny. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in September 2025 declared the former Speaker wanted in connection to allegations of criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, and money laundering. Despite these pending allegations, the Crown Prince of Ngwa Ukwu remained focused on his political roadmap during the gathering. He urged the people to remain steadfast in their support for Tinubu, assuring them that, at the end of the day, they would get a befitting reward. He told his people that the President meant well for the Igbo, adding that, if they vote massively for Tinubu in 2027, the President will always remember them. "In the last election, we did not vote for President Tinubu the way it was supposed to be. But in 2027, nobody is talking about 25 percent votes for the President, we are going to give him over 80 percent of Abia votes." Enweremadu, who convened the meeting, used the occasion to declare interest in contesting the Abia Central Senatorial Zone seat. "Isiala Ngwa North has been marginalised in the politics of the zone in the past and this has to stop. Since the return of the present political process in 1999, Isiala Ngwa North is the only Local Government Area out of the six which make up the Abia Central Senatorial District that has not occupied the zone's senatorial seat." Enweremadu, who served as a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs -- the period under which the EFCC's interest reportedly stems -- said that, if he gets his party's ticket and eventually wins the election, he will deploy his wealth of experience to ensure the senatorial district gets what is due to it. "Some people say I am very young to go to the Senate, that the upper legislative chamber is not for small boys. How can I be a small boy at 59? By next year, I will be 60. The only thing is that such people don't know what to use to campaign against me." Enweremadu, who was a former chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), said he left the party and joined the APC to ensure his people get the best from the present political dispensation. The Director-General and Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Isiala Ngwa North, Chief Tony Otuonye, disclosed that Enweremadu was desirous of creating a new political relationship between Isiala Ngwa North and other LGAs in Abia State. Other speakers, including Chiefs Uzoma Onwauka, Lucky Nwaogu, Okey Nguma, Joshua Onyenkwere and Dr (Mrs) Elizabeth Esochaghi, among others, commended the leadership and political foresight of Rt. Hon Enweremadu. They described him as a committed leader dedicated to the development and political advancement of the region and pledged their support for his senatorial ambition, notwithstanding the current legal status.
