A Nigerian man has stirred reactions online after claiming that unemployment in Nigeria is not as widespread as many people believe. In a viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he revealed that he has been searching for someone to help him sell okpa and even offered a monthly salary of ₦100,000, yet many turned down the opportunity. Expressing his frustration, he said: "Saying there's no unemployment in Nigeria is not true. I've been looking for a sales boy to help me sell okpa, and I'm offering ₦100,000 per month, yet people keep declining because they want to be 'working boys.' I even offered a three-year deal with ₦3 million settlement and a bike at the end. Still declined." The man further suggested that many young people prefer HK (Hustle Kingdom) jobs, commonly associated with Yahoo practices, over small business opportunities, even when the pay is reasonable. He argued that if unemployment were as widespread as people claim in Nigeria, no one should have rejected his mouth-watering offer. His statement quickly gained attention on social media, with many Nigerians sharing differing views about the country's unemployment situation. While some agreed with his opinion, others argued that factors such as job conditions, location, and long-term prospects might explain why people turned down the offer. Some reactions from social media users included. One user wrote, "Selling okpa is hard work. Abeeg. How much is 100k?" Another added, "Not everyone wants to risk everything for a small business. Sometimes a 'working boy' job gives peace of mind." Source: https://www.gistreel.com/i-even-offered-₦3m-as-okpa-seller-laments-struggle-to-hire-salespersons-says-no-unemployment-in-nigeria/
