Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, has expressed relief after Tanzanian side Singida Black Stars cleared him of match-fixing allegations following an internal investigation. Naija News reports that Amas Obasogie had been suspended for three months on February 27 after supporters, club officials and stakeholders raised concerns over a series of costly errors in recent matches. The incidents came in fixtures against Flambeau du Centre in the CAF Confederation Cup and league clashes with Pamba Jiji and Namungo FC in the NBC Premier League. But the club announced on Saturday that its disciplinary committee found no wrongdoing. In a statement signed by chief executive Jonathan Kassano, Singida said the review uncovered no evidence of manipulation or gambling by the goalkeeper. "The incidents that raised the concerns have been determined to be technical errors within the game," the club stated. It added that Obasogie had apologised for the mistakes that sparked the suspicions and promised to work on areas of his game. Following the outcome, the club reversed the suspension and confirmed that the goalkeeper can return to training and matches. Speaking in a video shared on Facebook, Obasogie thanked those who supported him during the controversy. "I am so happy everything against the allegation has been resolved. I want to say a big thank you to everybody who stood by me, who wished me well, who prayed for me. I am really happy and grateful everything has been resolved," he said. He also praised the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for backing him during the investigation. Obasogie singled out Philip Shaibu, Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, describing him as a passionate supporter of football. The goalkeeper further thanked former club Bendel Insurance, his family, the media and Singida officials for ensuring the allegations were thoroughly examined. "I want to say a big thank you to my team, who did their own investigation, found that there was nothing, and decided to vindicate me. The love is so massive," Obasogie added. Obasogie joined Singida in 2025 from the Ethiopian side of Fasil Kenema. He has also been a regular call-up to Nigeria's national side, the Super Eagles. He was part of Nigeria's squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where the team finished third. Obasogie served as the third-choice goalkeeper behind Stanley Nwabali and Francis Uzoho. Naija News reports that the case makes him the second Nigerian goalkeeper linked with a match-fixing controversy in recent years. In 2025, Maduka Okoye received a two-month suspension in Italy after a betting scandal.
