The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has strongly condemned the ongoing impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, describing the process as a "desperate vendetta" and a blatant attempt to subvert the people's mandate. Johnson described the impeachment attempt as "the dying kick of a political class that has lost its soul," adding that the Deputy Governor's only 'offence' was his refusal to join defectors abandoning the NNPP for political opportunism. "The Deputy Governor is being persecuted for staying true to Kano voters and the party, while others have fled to the ruling party in a shameful display of political opportunism," the statement said. The party also assured Kano residents of its continued support for the Deputy Governor and urged calm in the face of what it described as a provocation. "You cannot impeach the truth, and you cannot serve a notice of 'gross misconduct' on the collective will of the masses. "This legislative rascality is nothing more than a crude attempt to finalize the subversion of the ballot through the backdoor," he said. Looking ahead to the 2027 election, the NNPP warned legislators allegedly compromising their integrity for political favors that voters would hold them accountable. "The gavel is yours today, but the people hold the ultimate power. 2027 is closer than it appears, and the voters have long memories," the statement read. The NNPP concluded by affirming its resolve to remain steadfast and undeterred in the face of what it called an attack on democratic principles, insisting that the people's mandate must be respected.
