Leading communications infrastructure provider IHS Nigeria in partnership with the Women Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC) and SkillBoost Africa have empowered 200 secondary school girls in Rivers State to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The programme with the theme, 'From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM by Closing the Gender Gap,' held recently, brought together students from five different schools in Port Harcourt as part of activities to celebrate this year's International Day for Women and Girls in Science. The event featured interactive science and technology demonstrations, quiz competition, and a panel session as women professionals in IHS Nigeria working across STEM fields, broadened the students' academic exposure, strengthened their confidence and mentored them on how to pursue their aspirations in STEM studies and careers. Senior Specialist, Customer Experience at IHS Nigeria, Abiola Adeleke, who delivered the keynote speech emphasised the importance of empowering women and girls in STEM, citing the need to bridge the gender gap and promote innovation. Adeleke said: "We are proud to join you in celebrating the International Day of Women and Girls in Science themed: From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM by Closing the Gender Gap.
