President Bola Tinubu has reassured Nigeria's armed forces and the citizens on that his administration stands firm in its determination to eradicate terrorism and other dangers threatening the nation's peace, promising ultimate triumph over disruptive elements. He gave this assurance during an interfaith iftar event at the State House in Abuja, where he hosted top military leaders and security personnel amid the ongoing Ramadan and Lenten fast. Speaking on the fresh terrorist assault on Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, Tinubu stressed that the country would surmount its security hurdles. "We will win. Nigeria will prevail," the President declared, reinforcing the administration's dedication to nationwide peace for both soldiers and civilians. Tinubu revealed he had personally contacted Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum to offer condolences after the attack. "My sympathy goes to the Vice President and the entire country, and the people of Borno for the incident that occurred. I made a call to Zulum to share the pain with him," the President said. He praised the bravery of the security forces battling insurgents and bandits, vowing that their sacrifices would yield results. "This nation will always be grateful to you. Many times you are without your families and face attacks from bandits and terrorists, yet you continue to serve and protect our sovereignty," Tinubu said. Expressing his determination to prioritising troop welfare, the President said that he was committed to supporting service members and their loved ones. "I assure you we will do everything possible to ensure that you have no regrets. The welfare of you and your families will always take first priority in our decisions," the President said. Tinubu recognised ongoing issues like housing shortages and equipment needs, pledging sustained government action. On economic progress, he reflected that initial reforms brought hardship but now point to recovery. "When we first started, we had a rough ride and ran into very serious turbulence. But I can say today that we have stabilised the economy. We are out of the dark tunnel. We are seeing the daylight and bright light ahead of us", he said. He called for national solidarity, viewing Nigeria's diversity as an asset. Tinubu hailed the iftar as a beacon of unity, aligning Ramadan and Lent for shared reflection. "This period reflects the complexity and diversity of our nation, but God has ordained that these seasons coincide for self-integration and peace," he said. He expressed gratitude to attendees for their service and participation. "I stand before you to say thank you for responding to this invitation. Interfaith peace is very laudable, that we can celebrate together and break bread together," he said. Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu earlier had renewed the military's allegiance to Tinubu and its role in upholding democracy. He thanked the President for salary increases, new gear, and improved housing for troops, including the Brigade of Guards. "These approvals will go a long way in enhancing our operational efficiency and I assure you that they are well received by members of the armed forces," the Army chief said. "We wish to reaffirm our unalloyed loyalty to Mr President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces," he said. "We also remain the defenders of our democracy and will do everything it takes to safeguard it." Shaibu also thanked the public for backing the security efforts.
