The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi-Raja, has assured that all Nigerian nationals currently in the country were safe and secured. Speaking in an interview with Sunday Sun, Amb Mahdavi-Raja stated: "They face no threats whatsoever. Like other foreign nationals residing in the country, they are engaged in their studies, work, or daily lives in complete safety, and there is no danger directed at them," the envoy stated. Amb Mahdavi-Raja also explained how nationals of other countries, particularly Nigerians, can be evacuated from the country. The response from the Iranian envoy is coming amidst plans by foreign countries to evacuate their nationals from Iran, which is currently at war with the United States and the State of Israel. Responding to enquiries from Sunday Sun regarding the evacuation of nationals of other countries living in Iran, Mahdavi-Raja said foreign nationals can leave Iran without any problem. Mahdavi-Raja said: "The airspace is currently closed, but the land borders remain open. It depends on which direction they wish to travel - towards the western, northern, or eastern borders of Iran." The Iranian envoy further said the country's land borders were open, adding that there would be no issues for foreign nationals trying to exit the country through the land routes. On Friday, the Federal Government held an inter-ministerial meeting to work out modalities on how best to evacuate Nigerians living in Iran. The Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, in a telephone conversation with Sunday Sun, said an estimated population of 1, 000 Nigerians were living in Iran out of which over 600 of them are students. These students are sponsored on scholarships by different state governments," Ebienfa said. Source: https://thesun.ng/nigerians-in-iran-safe-secure-envoy-assures/
