Outside of writing, Andy is the host of The Showrunner Whisperer, The Flash Podcast, the editor-in-chief of Multiverse of Color, and the network director of DC TV Podcasts. Alan Ritchson lands a win in 2026 for his latest project, with American audience members making it a success. The Reacher star's new film, War Machine, finally arrived on Netflix on March 6, and it has already surged on the streaming charts for the platform. The Patrick Hughes-directed film is the number 1 movie on the popular streaming service in the United States. However, the success doesn't just stop there, as Ritchson's sci-fi action entry is also trending at #1 on Netflix all over the world. Countries include England, Sweden, Spain, Brazil, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Malaysia, Nigeria, Serbia, South Africa, Venezuela, Turkey, Belgium, Australia, Bangladesh, Denmark, Egypt, Greece, Ireland, Kenya, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan, Romania, France, Oman, Poland, and Singapore. Based on a story by Hughes, the director co-wrote the War Machine screenplay with James Beaufort. While Ritchson plays Staff Sergeant 81, the cast also includes Dennis Quaid, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Keiynan Lonsdale, Stephan James, and Daniel Webber. In ScreenRant's War Machine movie review by Alex Harrison, Ritchson's performance was praised for being "very effective when playing his character as he is at the beginning," but his "growth arc isn't quite calibrated properly." In the end, Harrison stressed that "the best version of this story is far more withholding, and for whatever reason, the filmmakers chose not to make it." At the time of this story's publication, War Machine is sitting on a 68% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 28 submitted reviews. The film is also at 73% on the Popcornmeter, but it's key to remember that both scores are subject to change, especially following the project's debut on Netflix. Following the War Machine ending, there are ideas for a potential sequel, but Netflix has yet to formally greenlight it. When ScreenRant's own Liam Crowley spoke with Ritchson and Hughes, the director revealed that they have mapped out future adventures: Patrick Hughes: No, no. When I sat down and wrote War Machine, I was like, this is a fully formed standalone story, and heaven forbid -- touch wood -- if I ever got the opportunity to take it further, I know exactly where it's going, and I've sketched it out. It's impossible not to, as a writer, to think about. I fell in love with the character of 81, and the universe of sort of everything he's going through. So look, if that call comes in, then yes, I'm ready to pull the trigger.
