Reacting to the situation, Abdullahi wrote that even expensive lobbying efforts cannot "whitewash the facts," insisting that Nigerians are still facing widespread violence in several parts of the country. The opposition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has strongly criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu over the continued wave of killings and insecurity across Nigeria, accusing the government of failing in its primary responsibility to protect citizens. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the party's National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said no amount of public relations efforts could conceal what he described as the reality of worsening insecurity in the country. Reacting to the situation, Abdullahi wrote that even expensive lobbying efforts cannot "whitewash the facts," insisting that Nigerians are still facing widespread violence in several parts of the country. "You can pay lobbyists $9m to repackage you, but you cannot whitewash the facts: Fact 1: More people have been killed by terrorists under this government than at any other time in Nigeria's history. Fact 2: More people (135 million Nigerians) are living in poverty today than at any other time in Nigeria's history. Fact 3: When you try to defend incompetence, you will ALWAYS end up sounding like an idiot," Bolaji Abdullahi said via an X post. The ADC spokesman referenced ongoing attacks and killings in multiple communities, arguing that the scale and frequency of the violence demonstrate a serious failure of government security strategies. Recent months have witnessed deadly attacks in different parts of the country, including incidents in Kwara State and Katsina State, where dozens of civilians were reportedly killed by armed groups and terrorists. The ADC said such attacks reflect deeper problems within the nation's security architecture. The party further questioned the effectiveness of measures previously announced by the Federal Government, including the declaration of a security emergency and promises to recruit thousands of additional police officers to strengthen internal security. According to the ADC, the persistence of attacks across several states suggests that armed groups are still able to operate freely, exposing weaknesses in intelligence gathering, border control, inter-agency coordination and emergency response systems. The opposition party therefore called on the Federal Government to be transparent with Nigerians about the true state of national security and to outline concrete steps being taken to halt the killings. It maintained that any government that fails to safeguard the lives of its citizens has fallen short of its most fundamental responsibility.
