BBA Motors has unveiled the Zeekr 9X, an electric Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), marking the model's African debut, as it targets Nigeria's growing luxury EV market. The launch adds to the growing presence of premium EVs in Nigeria's automotive market. The Zeekr brand is a premium EV marque under Geely Holding Group, one of China's largest automotive companies. The vehicle features advanced electric technology, driver-assistance systems, and premium design, introducing a new generation of intelligent vehicles to the Nigerian market. BBA Motors Nigeria is an automotive import, distribution, and mobility solutions company focused on bringing high-quality vehicles to the Nigerian market. Speaking at the event, Rebecca Jia, founder and chief executive officer of BBA Motors, said the company aims to expand access to high-quality Chinese vehicles in the Nigerian market through localised services and improved logistics. Jia noted that the Lagos showroom marks a new phase for the company as it expands into the high-end electric-vehicle segment. "The exclusive debut and first delivery of the Zeekr 9X is a key move for us to lay out the high-end new energy vehicle track. "We will continue to provide Nigerian residents with a full range of options from daily commuter models to high-end luxury vehicles, while delivering end-to-end services including fleet procurement, leasing, maintenance for corporate clients and ride-hailing platforms," she said. Read also: Nigeria market is ripe for luxury car rental - Ordor Product experts at the event said the model is powered by a ternary lithium battery with a driving range of up to 560 kilometres on a single charge under the CLTC cycle, while fast charging can take the battery from 30 percent to 80 percent in about 28 minutes. They also noted that the vehicle is equipped with a front- and rear-dual-motor intelligent four-wheel drive system, with a combined power of 310 kW, a torque of 680 N·m, and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.2 seconds. In addition to performance features, the SUV includes advanced driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-centering control, and automatic parking assistance, supported by radar sensors and cameras. The interior features a large digital cockpit display system, voice-activated controls, and premium seating designed for long-distance travel. "Its intelligent driving assistance system is equipped with 5 millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 8 high-definition cameras, supporting 23 intelligent driving functions including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centering Control (LCC), intelligent lane change assist, 360° panoramic imaging with transparent chassis, and automatic parking assist, greatly reducing driving fatigue during long-distance trips and urban congestion. "The ultra-high-strength steel-aluminum hybrid body has a torsional stiffness of 36000 N·m/deg, with 6 airbags, meeting global five-star safety standards. It is also equipped with a full set of active and passive safety systems, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), and tire pressure monitoring," the company stated. The event was attended by business leaders, financial industry executives, ride-hailing partners, and media representatives, including Oyebanji Oyelaran Oyeyinka, former director of the Regional Office for Africa of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), and D Banj. The company stated that the arrival of new-energy vehicles like the Zeekr 9X reflects the growing interest in electric mobility among Nigeria's premium vehicle buyers, while noting that its operations in Nigeria currently focus on the sales of China-manufactured vehicles, vehicle rental services, and supplying fleets to ride-hailing platforms.
