A new grassroots political movement, Working People United, has been unveiled in Abuja, aiming to mobilise Nigerians across sectors to support the continuation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's policies and reforms ahead of the 2027 general elections. The movement was officially launched on March 6, 2026, at the PTD Hotel in Utako, Abuja. The group's Coordinator, Comrade (Prince) Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, said the platform represents the collective voice of Nigerian workers and ordinary citizens, including artisans, traders, farmers, professionals and transport workers who contribute significantly to the nation's economy. Speaking during the unveiling, Akporeha described the movement as a national platform aimed at mobilising grassroots support for policies that promote economic growth, stability and national development. "Today marks a historic moment as we formally unveil Working People United, a grassroots movement built on the strength, resilience, and aspirations of ordinary Nigerians," he said. "This movement represents the collective voice of workers, artisans, traders, farmers, professionals, transporters and all hardworking citizens who form the backbone of our great nation's economy." Akporeha praised Tinubu's leadership since assuming office on May 29, 2023, noting that the administration has taken bold steps to reposition Nigeria's economy. "Leadership is never about choosing the easy path; it is about choosing the path that secures the future of the nation," he said. He highlighted several initiatives introduced by the administration which he said were designed to support working Nigerians, including social investment programmes, direct cash transfer schemes and policies aimed at improving access to credit for small businesses, traders and artisans. According to him, these interventions are helping to cushion the impact of economic reforms on vulnerable Nigerians while laying the foundation for long-term economic growth. Akporeha said the newly formed movement would focus on educating citizens about government policies, encouraging constructive engagement between the government and the public, and mobilising grassroots support for national development initiatives. "As we look ahead to 2027, this movement will play a critical role in ensuring that the progress currently being made is sustained and enhanced," he said. "Our goal is to mobilise millions of workers, artisans, traders, farmers, professionals and everyday Nigerians to support the continuation of policies and programmes designed to rebuild our economy and strengthen our national institutions." He also urged Nigerians to reject divisive politics and misinformation, stressing that the movement was not formed for political praise-singing but for national awakening among the working class. "Today's unveiling of the Working People United is not one of those praise-singing gatherings, but a movement of a national awakening among working people who understand that the future of Nigeria must be built through unity, hard work, proactive and responsible leadership," he stated. Akporeha further called on Nigerians who believe in national progress and stability to join the movement and support the ongoing reforms. "Together, we will amplify the voice of the working people. Together, we will defend the progress that has begun. And together, we will build a stronger Nigeria for ourselves and for generations yet unborn," he said. The launch event was attended by labour leaders, market women, youth leaders, professionals and other stakeholders.
