The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has said that the Super Eagles still have the chance of making the 2026 World Cup playoff. According to a report by soccernet.ng, Dikko said the country has not given up hope of returning to the qualification race. This is despite the recent announcement of the Democratic Republic of Congo as a team for the playoff. Nigeria had been waiting for a decision from the world football governing body on a petition written against DR Congo, who sent the Super Eagles out of the 2026 World Cup final race. Dikko believes the listing of DR Congo does not mean that FIFA has already made a final decision on the country's complaint. Nigeria had accused DR Congo of featuring ineligible players for the Africa playoff game the Super Eagles lost.
